Mental Health First Aid

Through funding provided by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Behavioral Health, Region 4 Systems has a team of certified trainers to conduct MHFA training. 

MHFA is a public education program that helps the public identify, understand, and respond to individuals showing signs of a mental illness or substance use disorder.  MHFA is an 8-hour interactive course that presents an overview of mental illness and substance use disorders, introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments.  Participants learn a five-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social and self-help care. 

MHFA helps people know that mental illnesses are real, common, and treatable and that it's acceptable to seek help.  Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of this program to improve knowledge of mental disorders and substance use, remove fear and misunderstanding, and enable those trained to offer concrete assistance.
